OYO changed the hotel check-in rules in the new year

As soon as the new year started, OYO shocked all unmarried couples. Under which now any unmarried couples will have to show a relationship certificate while checking in OYO rooms.

This new check-in policy of OYO Hotels has been implemented in Meerut. In which any couple taking a room will have to show a valid relationship proof while checking in. This new policy can be implemented in other cities according to the feedback.

OYO has given its partner hotels the right to reject couples' bookings based on local social norms. OYO says this decision has been taken keeping in mind social sensitivity and local laws. As per the guidelines effective this year, unmarried couples will not be welcome to check-in. Under the revised policy, all couples will be asked to produce valid proof of their relationship at the time of check-in, including online bookings.

According to the Times of India report, OYO has instructed its partner hotels to implement this rule in Meerut immediately. The company says that civil groups and local residents of Meerut and some other cities had demanded OYO stop unmarried couples from checking in.

Will keep reviewing the policies

Oyo North India regional head Pavas Sharma told PTI, "Oyo is committed to maintaining safe and responsible hospitality practices. While we respect individual freedom and individual liberty, we also recognize our responsibility to listen to and work with law enforcement and civil society groups in the markets where we operate. We will keep reviewing this policy and its impact from time to time."

The company said that this initiative is a part of Oyo's program to change the old perception and present itself as a brand that provides safe experiences for families, students, business, religious, and solo travelers. Additionally, the program aims to encourage longer stays and repeat bookings, increasing customer trust and loyalty. Oyo has also launched initiatives such as joint seminars on safe hospitality with police and hotel partners, blacklisting hotels allegedly promoting unethical activities, and taking action against unauthorized hotels using Oyo branding.
