7.1 magnitude earthquake was felt near the Tibet-Nepal border

Today, on Tuesday morning, a 7.1 magnitude earthquake was felt near the Tibet-Nepal border. According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), its epicenter was in the Tibet region. The earthquake struck at 6.35 am Indian time. The epicenter of the earthquake is about 93 kilometers northeast of Nepal. Many parts of Bihar and North India were affected by the earthquake. The earthquake has caused massive destruction in Shigatse city of Tibet. Infrastructure including many buildings has been damaged on a large scale.

Earthquake tremors were also felt in many areas of India, Nepal, Bangladesh and Bhutan. Strong tremors of earthquake were felt on Tuesday morning in various parts of North India including Sikkim and other northeastern states, Bihar and West Bengal. After feeling strong tremors in Nepal's capital Kathmandu, people came out of their homes and ran towards the roads and open spaces.

According to news agency Reuters, the earthquake has caused loss of life and property in Tibet and about 53 people have died. The earthquake has caused massive destruction in Shigatse city of Tibet. Infrastructure including many buildings has been damaged on a large scale.

China's official news agency Xinhua said that 53 people have died and 62 have been injured in the 7.1 magnitude earthquake that struck Dingri County of Tibet.
