PM Modi arrived in Guyana
PM Modi arrived in Guyana on WED – 20 November 2024, on the last leg of his trip after attending the G20 Summit in Brazil. This is the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister after 56 years. In an unprecedented gesture, President Mohamed Irfaan Ali and over a dozen Cabinet ministers welcomed him at the airport.
According to reports, Guyana is home to around 3,20,000 people of Indian origin. PM Modi will address a fellow democracy in Guyana’s Parliament. Today PM Modi will join the leaders of Caribbean partner countries to attend the India-CARICOM Summit.
Guyana will confer its highest national award, “The Order of Excellence” on Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
While sharing the post on his X account, PM Modi said -
"A heartfelt thank you to the Indian community in Guyana for their warm and spirited welcome.
They have shown that distance is never a barrier to staying connected to one's roots. Glad to see the community making a mark here across different sectors."
