India-Bangladesh Relations:
Mohammad Yunus' interim government in Bangladesh is getting completely exposed with every decision. After the coup of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the country, Mohammad Yunus' interim government is doing all those things in Bangladesh, due to which one day Bangladesh will completely become 'Terroristan'. Bangladesh, which is renowned everywhere in the world as a country famous for its textile industry, will slowly build an image like that of Pakistan. Now, the High Court of Bangladesh is also on the same thinking. The High Court of Bangladesh on Tuesday reduced the life imprisonment of ULFA-I Chief Paresh Barua to 14 years in jail. At the same time, the sentence of five other terrorists has also been reduced to 10 years.
This case is related to the supply of weapons in Northeast India
It is pertinent to add that this case is related to the supply of weapons in Northeast India. Paresh Barua has already spent more than 14 years in jail. Simultaneously, the High Court of Bangladesh has made a way out for him by getting him freed from jail. Let me inform you that these terrorists were caught and sent behind bars in the year 2004 after they attempted to smuggle weapons in 10 trucks to the separatist organization in Northeast India. After that, the court gave them a death sentence. However, with the change of power in Bangladesh, the mentality of the country's judiciary has also changed.
Till now, terrorists have been given capital punishment.
Let us tell you that on 18 December 2024, the Bangladesh High Court turned the death penalty of ULFA I chief Paresh Barua and former military and intelligence officers Akbar Hussain, Liaquat Hussain, Hafizur Rahman, and Shahabuddin into life terms for smuggling arms in Northeast India.
Simultaneously, when the appeals were heard regarding the life imprisonment reduction, High Court Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Nasreen Akhtar converted the life imprisonment of ULFA I chief Paresh Barua to 14 years. The judgment was pronounced to reduce the life imprisonment of other terrorists to 10 years.
Arms recovery in large quantities from terrorists
In April 2004, an enormous amount of arms was recovered from the terrorists. Some influential personalities had attempted to move them to the ULFA hideouts safely in Northeast India. Over 27 thousand grenades, 150 rocket launchers, over 11 lakh ammunition, 1100 submachine guns, and 11.41 million bullets were recovered from the terrorists.
