Syria's President has fled to an unknown place, ending his 53-year rule. Taking advantage of this, opposition forces captured the capital on Sunday.

President Bashar al-Assad took power after his father in 2000. His father had ruled for three decades. 13 years ago, he crushed the pro-democracy rebellion very brutally. After which the uprising took the form of a huge destructive civil war. The result of this civil war was that "more than 5 lakh people died and 12 million people had to leave their homes."

An Islamist group named Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) carried out a major operation along with allied groups. Rebel groups captured Syria's second-largest city Aleppo. After that, they turned their attention toward Damascus, where the rebels advanced and defeated the Syrian army.

The rebels said, we release our people from captivity along with the Syrian people and declare the end of the era of injustice in Sednaya prison, and we celebrate this.

Because of this rebellion going on in Syria, Lebanon is closing all its land borders with Syria. Lebanon has kept the land border connecting Beirut to Damascus open.
